If perfume means fragrance generally, eau de parfum (Amazon search) is one kind of perfume. If you mean a maker’s separately named Parfum or Extrait, there is a real version comparison, but its label alone cannot guarantee longer wear.
Define the products before choosing maximum longevity. EDP need not be a daily option and parfum need not be reserved for weddings or winter.
Use a named pair rather than a category promise
Chanel describes N°5 EDP as a reinterpretation introduced by Jacques Polge in 1986, drawing on the original Parfum’s floral-aldehydic signature. Its N°5 Parfum Grand Extrait reference describes neroli, May rose and jasmine.
These references establish related, separately described products. They do not establish our own measured duration advantage. N°5 EDT and L’Eau are other versions; their names should not be silently substituted.
Define lasts longer before comparing

For a buying decision, useful duration may matter more than maximum detection. A version can last longer while leaving a later smell you prefer less. We have not conducted controlled wear measurements for this page.
Try the actual versions as directed on separate occasions if appropriate. Record the wearing window you want and whether each answers it. Avoid using unapproved fabric application to manufacture an apparent winner.
A higher concentration is context
IFRA’s concentration guidance gives general descriptors with overlapping ranges. It is not an hour chart or verified percentage for every N°5 version. The formula, dispenser and selected routine also matter; there is no universal spray-count conversion.
Nor does concentration establish social versatility. A parfum can be a regular favourite where fragrance is welcome, and an EDP can be too noticeable for a particular shared setting.
Buy the version you want to wear
Compare the exact delivered price and selected volume. A higher price does not pay for itself through fewer sprays without actual usage evidence. Sample the relevant version rather than assuming the higher tier is the upgrade.

Pure parfum, perfume and spray on one listing
Pure parfum and extrait usually indicate a higher concentration range, but pure is wording, not proof of an undiluted or solvent-free formula, and it says nothing about whether a scent is natural or hypoallergenic. EDP means eau de parfum; it is not a middle tier between an undefined perfume and parfum. Spray describes the dispenser, not a competing category, so one bottle can be both: an abbreviated title such as Perfume Spray and a full Eau de Parfum Spray title may be the same product at the same size. Resolve the full name, volume and maker reference first, and if both resolve to the same EDP compare seller and delivered price. Sprays can also hold alcohol-free formulas, so a spray label tells you nothing about concentration or duration.
