Choose a sampler that answers a question you already have. If you want to compare several scent directions, buy variety. Paper strips are useful for an initial comparison; they do not reveal only top notes. A skin trial, where appropriate under the label and your circumstances, answers a different question about your own wear. Neither requires an invented rule that every perfume reaches its base notes at exactly four hours.

REPLICA: variety within a named edition

The Memory Box reference specifies ten 2 ml EDT samples: 20 ml in total. Match the actual scent list when ordering, because discovery collections can change.

It is relevant if you want to compare several REPLICA perfumes. A fragrance’s place-and-time story can help you remember a sample, but it is not proof that the perfume will recreate that setting for you. The brand page showed out of stock when checked; an Amazon search does not confirm an available matching offer.

Commodity: compare versions, not a universal projection scale

Commodity’s Exploration Kit contains eighteen core 2 ml samples of Milk, Gold, Juice, Book, Moss and Paper across Personal, Expressive and Bold. That is 36 ml before any promotional extras.

The Scent Space names express the maker’s intended projection differences. They are not certified distances or workplace permissions. Choose one fragrance across its three versions if that is your question, rather than trying all eighteen in one sitting.

The brand explicitly reserves some bonus samples and its full-size discount code for direct purchases. Do not assume those extras are included in an Amazon kit. Compare the core contents and the seller’s actual listing instead.

Diptyque: larger portions, fewer different fragrances

The pre-composed five-EDT set lists Eau Rose, Do Son, L’Ombre dans l’Eau, Eau des Sens and Philosykos. Five 7.5 ml containers total 37.5 ml. The previous list should not have assumed Tam Dao was included.

A compose-your-own edition is a different configuration. An Amazon prepacked set does not automatically let you choose its contents. Larger portions help only if you want repeated use of those particular scents.

Penhaligon’s: “Scent Library” is not a complete contents list

The ten-piece Scent Library page documents ten 2 ml samples, but other editions include a Portraits library and an eight-piece bestseller library. The name alone does not establish the exact selection.

If Halfeti or another named perfume is your reason to buy, require it in the seller’s contents list. Do not rely on a review written for a different edition. This is a house-exploration option, not proof that you need a formal or “classicist” style to enjoy it.

TOCCA: a smaller total commitment

TOCCA’s 2026 Mini Discovery Set provides eight 1.5 ml sprays, or 12 ml total, including Laila alongside Florence, Stella, Giulietta, Cleopatra, Colette, Simone and Lucia. Compare that exact edition if those fragrances interest you.

Small samples may be enough to rule out a preference before a larger purchase. Treat any brand-store redemption code as separate from an Amazon purchase unless the seller documents it. A sampler is not a zero-risk purchase: you might like none of it, and opened-product returns can be restricted.

A beginner record that stays manageable

Label each observation with the fragrance and version, application method and time. First note whether you want to revisit it at all. For promising samples, note what changes in your perception later and whether you choose to wear them again. Compare at your own useful times; do not assign top, heart and base stages from a fixed clock.

Follow label directions, leave fragrance out of prohibited settings, and stop using a product that causes symptoms. You can explore on paper without committing to a skin trial. Buying a full bottle is optional even when a kit advertises a discount.
